A class about the Jewish Community in the United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland) and Ireland. How does Jewish life in Ireland differ from Jewish life in the UK. We’ll also learn how the Jewish community in Letchworth Garden City (1939-1971) was both unique and representative of the larger Jewish story. And of special interest we’ll also learn about the Letchworth and Codex Sassoon (Cir. 900,) the earliest surviving complete Hebrew Bible, which is about to break the world record at Sotheby’s (May 2023).
Yanky Fachler, MA, was born and educated in the UK, lived for 30 years in Israel, and has lived for the past 25 years in Ireland, where he is chair of the Jewish Historical Society of Ireland, and is on the board of the Irish Jewish Museum.
