Opening The Book"Opening the Book" is brought to you, in large part, by the Jewish Study Center. The primary author, who will be joined by others, is a former director of the Jewish Study Center director who began her Jewish learning as an adult with the Study Center. The series, published at "A Song Every Day," will eventually include four approaches to each portion in the annual Torah-reading cycle. Unlike the many sites offering full-fledged dvrei Torah (words of Torah), these posts are more open-ended, offering sources and paths, rather than completed thoughts, to facilitate further exploration…and encourage readers to draw their own conclusions. Comments — and additional sources, paths, etc. — are welcome. The Study Center is sharing material from the current and upcoming weekly portions. Posts provide notes on Language and Translation, Something to Notice, a Path to Follow, and Great Sources. Each provides a different sort of window into the text. To find more posts of the same type, visit "A Song Every Day" and choose Language, Notice, Path or Source in the tag cloud. Or click on a portion name for parashah-specific notes. (The series began with Numbers; posts for Genesis, Exodus and Leviticus are being drafted, week-by-week.) Check back for new material as the Torah cycle unfolds. The series and "A Song Every Day" are independent, and all views, mistakes, etc. are the author's. |
