What's Elijah Doing at the Seder?
6:45 to 8:00 pm
$15
At the seder, we fill a cup of wine known as the Cup of Elijah and open the outside door to greet the Prophet Elijah. Why Elijah? To answer this question, we will explore the Biblical Book of Kings, the Prophet Malachi, various stories in the Talmud, and the religious ceremonies in Judaism in which Elijah plays a role. At the end of this journey, we will be better acquainted with Elijah and we may even have an answer to our question about what he is doing at the seder.
Ben Mintz is a rabbi and a professor of law at Catholic University who teaches frequently for the Jewish Study Center.

How to Host a Great Seder
8:15 to 9:30 pm
$15
The power of the seder is not all in the text: It is also in the delivery! From Jeopardy games to Hasidic commentaries, here's a chance to pick up some new ideas (and exchange some of your own!) on how to brighten up a seder, whether by making it more kid friendly, more meditative, or just more dynamic. Learn to introduce new customs, get everyone involved, and generally deepen the meaning.
Rabbi Gilah Langner is director of the Open Academy for Jewish Studies, and co-editor of the journal Kerem.

Make Your Own Haggadah
6:45 to 9:00 pm
$25
When we sit down for the Passover seder, we fulfill the commandment to tell the story of the departure from Egypt. In every age, families and communities have added their interpretations of the story or adapted the text in response to their own times and needs. You can, too! This workshop shows how to start. We will look at places in the Haggadah where the text invites and authorizes innovation; then we will explore ways to include personal selections, such as writings, drawings, and activities suitable for all age groups. Beginners and experienced seder-givers are equally welcome.
Sybil Wolin has made a haggadah for her family every year for the past 28 years. She is a member of Adas Israel and a founder of the Congregation's Bereavement Committee and Family and Children's High Holiday Service.
