How does the round potato pancake square off against the tri-corner pastry? Join the Jewish Study Center for a debate that will determine which is the superior Jewish food.
Puns here are poured on thick like schmaltz. Each speaker presents an argument on the merits of the traditional foods using justifications from across the board, academic and non. As rockers say, "latke good times roll." The presenting scholars are from all areas of the community academically, professionally, and socially, and after the debate is completed, the treats will be served for additional research, examination, and noshing.
Speakers this year include Rabbi Jack Moline, David Goldston, a senior staffer for the House science committee, Judi Spungen, a nutrition expert/epidemiologist, and Michael Lewyn, a law professor. Rabbi Ken Cohen from American University will host the event. And Ruth Cernea, editor of The Great Latke-Hamantash Debate, will sign copies of her book, which will be available for purchase.
This event is $5 in advance, $7 at the door.
